Introduction
The BMTTM software follows an approach that has three main tenets. The first tenet is automation for the building and maintenance of test environments on a mainframe. The second tenet is dedicated, secured, and controlled test environments. And finally the third tenet is defined roles and responsibilities for users of the test environments. The BMT software tool follows this approach and is made up of a series of processes that can be used to identify data and executable needs, capture production data and objects and create a testing environment that is “Ready” to test. This tool can also rebuild, maintain, backup, and delete test environment objects. It eliminates most of the manual effort to build and maintain a test environment.
BMTTM provides a structured approach that is repeatable and reusable to allow for multiple test cycles. The tool and approach provides the ability to have controlled test environments for each testing phase. All testing phases are supported (unit, system, integration, regression, user acceptance, volume, etc.). All test cycles are supported (daily, monthly, quarterly, yearly, event driven, special business cycle, etc.).
Groups are created to provide ownership and control of the environments. A user in the Test Manager Group (aka Test Governance Group) determines who is allowed access by granting permission. There are three types of access that can be granted, builders, executors and analysts.
